MITI will support Perodua's efforts to produce Malaysia's first electric vehicle (EV) under RM100,000 by the end of 2025, aiming to make EVs more affordable. Minister Tengku Zafrul noted that as of September 2024, nearly 16,000 new battery EVs had been registered, surpassing 2023's total. Malaysia targets 20% EVs in the total industry volume by 2030. The goal is 10,000 public chargers by 2025, reducing the charger-to-EV ratio to 1:9, with the automotive sector contributing 4% to GDP.
