Malaysia is negotiating two new free trade agreements (FTAs): the Malaysia-EFTA Economic Partnership Agreement (MEEPA) and the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACaFTA). MEEPA, in discussions since 2014, involves EFTA countries, while ACaFTA has been ongoing since 2021. Talks with the EU and South Korea are currently on hold. The minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, noted that Malaysia is also negotiating a new investment guarantee agreement with Qatar. To date, Malaysia has established 16 FTAs and 62 IGAs, prioritising long-term benefits in all negotiations.
