Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has affirmed that Malaysia is on track to achieve its economic growth target of 5.3% to 6.3% this year, dismissing concerns over a global recession as "premature and unwarranted." He highlighted that the country's growth is supported by expansionary fiscal and accommodative monetary policies. While acknowledging potential risks from the Ukraine war and high commodity prices, he emphasised the importance of fiscal flexibility. Tengku Zafrul also proposed targeted oil subsidies to ensure fair distribution, noting that the wealthy disproportionately benefit from current blanket subsidies.
